CBC is giving lots of coverage to the expulsion of Rohingyas from
Myanmar but almost entirely from the perspective of persecuted
innocents. Rohingyas have been referred to as the world's most
persecuted people - which reminds me of another allegedly persecuted
people.
In neither case does CBC provide the reasons for the persecution. That
is shallow reporting and won't win CBC any awards for journalism.
Typically CBC label them as "Rohingya Muslims" but don't explain what
their religion has to do with it.
Rohingya are not wanted in Bangladesh which is predominently Muslim.
Neither as they welcome in Thailand and India. The reason is their
explosive population growth. That scares the locals. CBC won't mention
that.
It is interesting to speculate on the future of the Rohingya. The cause
tragedy unfolding is the same as for other current disasters from
Houston to Mexico to the Carribean - over-population and/or
over-development. Why not talk about it?
