Few Canadians would know who Gene Wilder was and he seems to have no
connections to Canada none-the-less CBC gave his life prominent and
glowing coverage on The_World_At_Six and The National. So I did a check.

I didnt' know he was Jewish.

He was in a lot of great films, he was the co-writer of Young
Frankenstein, he made us laugh. That's good enough, and his death hit the
other news outlets too. And of course, there was the added bit about him
suffering from Alzeimer's in the last few years, something he deliberately
kept quiet. It's hard to imagine him in a lesser state.

About 1980, I knew someone named Victor who looked a lot like Gene Wilder.
I told him that, it was meant as a complement.
